| Abstract: | An efficient I(-)-catalyzed methyl-oxygen bond cleavage in 2-methoxyfurans was observed. The subsequent C-C bond formation occurred at the 5-position to afford substituted butenolides. The structures of the final products were determined by the X-ray diffraction study. |
