Abstract: | This paper reports the results obtained in the hydrogenation of styrene and -methylstyrene by transfer over Pd catalysts supported on AlPO4, using cyclohexene as donor. The catalysts were activated in the pulse reactor itself and retained hydrogen which was subsequently used to reduce the olefins. The amount of ethylbenzene yielded from styrene can be accounted for on the basis of hydrogen transferred in a concerted fashion by cyclohexene and hydrogen stored over the catalyst surface during treatment with cyclohexene intended to reduce the impregnating metal salt.
