Abstract: | A new approach to the existence theory for the Navier-Stokes equations, using a technique of Kato [15], further developed in combination with estimates for Oseen's equation by Kobayashi & Shibata [17] and Shibata [24], has made possible the solution of a long-standing open problem often referred to as Finn's “starting problem”. This paper provides the solution. (Accepted January 31, 1996) |
