Abstract: | A heat transfer problem is solved, first for an infinitely long heated cylinder and then for a small heated sphere, each freely suspended in a general linear flow at Reynolds numbers . Asymptotic solutions to the convection problem are developed for very large values of the Péclet number , and expressions are obtained for the asymptotic Nusselt number for two-dimensional flows ranging from solid body rotation to hyperbolic flow. Since the objects in these cases are surrounded by a region of effectively isothermal closed streamlines, the asymptotic Nusselt number becomes independent of the Péclet number in the limit . |
