Abstract:Gas membranes supported by microporous hollow fibers have been used to concentrate bromine from a variety of brines similar to seawater. The bromine transport is governed by diffusion in the brine, and hence is almost independent of membrane properties except the surface area per volume. In some cases, this type of membrane can be an alternative to packed towers, simultaneously carrying out both absorption and stripping.
