Abstract: | Four thin-layer chromatographic systems were developed for the separation of vancomycin, related antibiotics and degradation products. Bioautography was suitable for detecting trace amounts of biologically active components. High-performance liquid chromatography was used to examine the composition of vancomycin and other glycopeptide antibiotics and to monitor the stability of vancomycin. Degradation of vancomycin lead to changes in the composition which were not matched by a similar loss of potency. |
