Influence of magnetic ordering on the phonon Raman spectra in YCrO3 and GdCrO3

Abstract:A1g and B2g phonon Raman lines with frequencies of ≈ 560 cm-1 in YCrO3 and GdCrO3 show large blue shift from a little above the Néel temperature to lower temperatures. The contribution of the volume exchange striction to the frequency shift is estimated to be about 30 to 40 per cent for the A1g and B2g lines, respectively.
