Core hole,plasmon coupling in the soft X-ray appearance potential spectrum of graphite

A direct comparison is presented between the results of core-level characteristic loss and soft X-ray appearance potential spectroscopies for the case of K-shell excitation in graphite. The agreement between the results of these two techniques indicates that contrary to earlier suggestions, plasmon coupling to the suddenly created core hole during the excitation does not contribute appreciably to the spectral shape.
