Mössbauer investigation of magnetic phase transitions in FeI2

Abstract:Mössbauer spectra were measured on single crystals of FeI2 at temperatures between 1.5 and 40°K in magnetic fields up to 6.5 T. The measurements show that the recently discovered magnetic phase transitions on FeI2 are characterized by changes in the ratio of spins parallel and antiparallel to the c-axis. The five magnetic phases have the following ratio of parallel to anti-parallel spins: 6 : 6, 8 : 4, 9 : 3, 10 : 2 and 12 : 0.
