Abstract:After the Pt/C electrode is treated with a mixed solvent of tetrahydrofuran and acetone, its electrocatalytic activity for ethanol oxidation is significantly increased. The main reason is that the treatment can remove the impurities, such as the surfactant introduced during the preparation of the Pt/C electrode, change the surface structure of the electrode to a certain extent and increase the exposed surface area of Pt. In addi- tion, the treatment of the Pt/C electrode can decrease the adsorption strength of CO, the intermediate of the ethanol oxidation, and hence decrease the poisoning effect of the adsorbed CO on the Pt/C electrode. The treatment method is simple and effective, and may be used in the preparation of DMFC.
