Abstract: | Poly(methyl methacrylate) spheres with surface-attached D,L-α-alanine were exposed to γ-irradiation. It was found that only one of the two known stable alanine radicals is generated on the polymer surface as a consequence of the bonding on the specific backbone group. The sensitivity of ESR spectroscopy for the determination of extremely small numbers of reactive sites was demonstrated. |
