Abstract:To study saddle point states of fissioning nuclei in the single-particle model nucleon wave functions and energy-levels for highly deformed nuclei are needed. In this paper a method is developped to calculate single-particle wave functions and energy eigenvalues for potentials with any axially symmetric deformation. For that purpose the eigenvalue problem for the partial diefferential operatorH is replaced by a discrete approximation. A special method is worked out to solve the resulting algebraic eigenvalue problem.
