Abstract:On the basis of Brinkman's equation, the problem of hydrodynamic resistance is analyzed for a row of periodically arranged parallel circular fibers placed in a uniform porous medium. The results are applied to the fan model of a filter, for which an equation aimed at determination of Brinkman's constant is derived within the framework of a self-consistent theory. The resistance force acting on a unit length of each fiber is calculated as a function of the geometrical parameters of the model. The capture coefficient is found for diffusion deposition of aerosols on fibers of the model filter. The results obtained agree with the experimental data.
