Abstract: | A process for the chemical modification of polybutadienes and natural rubber by various metallocene compounds is described. Soluble products of up to 43% ferrocene content were obtained. The effect of substrate, metallocene, and reaction conditions on the course and extent of substitution was investigated. The glass transition temperature Tg was found to increase considerably with the degree of substitution, e.g., cis-polybutadiene substituted with ferrocene (18 mole-%) has a Tg of 30°C, as compared with ?91°C for the unsubstituted polymer. |
