Monoalkylthallium(III) derivatives: preparation and X-ray crystal structure of cyclopropylbis(isobutyrato)thallium(III)

Cyclopropylbis(isobutyrato)thallium(III) has been synthesised and its crystal structure determined. The compound crystallises in the orthorhombic space group Pna2₁, with a 7.316, b 12.079, c 16.19 Å. Linear polymers are present in which thallium is seven-coordinate. Two types of carboxylate ligands are present; one weakly chelating and the other both chelating and bridging.This structure allows clarification of infrared spectroscopic data, presented for mono- and diorganothallium(III) carboxylates, in the solid state in solution.
