Electromagnetic transitions in some odd-neutron deformed nuclei

Abstract:Using the reactions 155, 157Gd(α,2n), 178Hf(n,γ) and 177Hf(α, 2n, the following half-lives of excited nuclear states have been measured: T12(188.1 keV in157Dy) = 1.00 ± 0.15 ns, T12(161.9 keV in157Dy) = 1.3 ± 0.2 μS, T12(177.6 keV in159Dy) = 9.0 ± 0.5 ns, T12(614.3 keV in179Hf) = 0.50 ± 0.15 ns, T12(720.7 keV in179Hf) ≦ 0.3 ns, T12(516.4 keV in179Hf) < 0.2 ns and T12(309.0 keV in179W) = 1.53 ± 0.10 ns. A Ge(Li) timing system was employed. Electromagnetic transition probabilities are calculated in the Nilsson model including pairing and band mixing effects. Comparisons between theoretical and experimental results are performed.
