Abstract:he catalytic esterification by rare earth oxides to synthesize dioctyl phthalate was further improved by using the supported catalyst Ln2()3/Al2()3 (Ln=Gd, Ho, Tin and Lu). The catalyst was prepared by coprecipitation-calcination method, the increased catalytic activity was due to the high dispersion of rare earth ions on the surface of Al2()3. On the other hand, the amount of rare earth oxide used in this method was reduced by about90%,so the total production cost was much lowered.
