Nonlinear photoviscoelasticity: Theory and measurement

Abstract:Photoviscoelasticity and photoplasticity concepts are reviewed and differences and similarities are discussed. The suggestion is made that a better understanding of nonlinear-time-varying birefringence enhances the utilization of polymeric materials for photoplasticity studies. A mathematical model for nonlinear photoviscoelasticity is presented. Measurements of optical creep and creep recovery are given and comparisons between theory and experiments are made and discussed.
