A symmetry property in the theory of optical activity

Two different theories of optically active materials are compared. It is shown by a simple example, namely reflection of light from an isotropic optically active material, that both treatments lead to contradictory results if a certain symmetry property between material parameters is applied. Thus an experimental decision between the two treatments should be possible.
