Light charged particle release in fission: Tripartition versus fragment de-excitation

Abstract:Emission distributions P(E,θ) in energy E and angle θ of protons (p), tritons (t), and ∝-particles released in spontaneous fission of 252-Cf have been measured. Whereas the experimental data for t and ∝ indicate the expected tripartition as the predominant mode, p emission has been found to be due to fragment de-excitation from highly excited, rapidly moving fragments mainly.
