An ultrasonic pulse compression system for non-destructive testing using maximal-length sequences

Abstract:An ultrasonic pulse compression system is described. The system, which employs maximal-length sequences and possesses theoretically zero sidelobes, has been simply implemented using digital techniques. Experimental results from the working system demonstrate the capabilities of the system and confirm the feasibility of the approach. Because of its increased signal-to-noise ratio it can be advantageously applied to testing situations where highly absorbent media are encountered.
