| Abstract: | An improved, efficient preparation of 2‐(halomethyl)allyl carboxylates starting from diethyl bis(hydroxymethyl)malonate and hydrobromic acid is reported. The allylic halogen of 2‐(chloromethyl)acrylate and 2‐(bromomethyl)acrylate are readily exchanged during esterification. |
