Abstract: | We applied resonant photoemission and X-ray absorption spectroscopy for a detailed characterization of the valence electronic
structure of the regular two-dimensional bacterial surface protein layer of Bacillus sphaericus NCTC 9602. Using this approach, we detected valence electron emission from specific chemical sites. In particular, it was
found that electrons from the π clouds of aromatic systems make large contributions to the highest occupied molecular orbitals. |
