| Abstract: | Elementary theoretical approaches to the ordering of the mobile ions in the conduction plane of β-alumina and β″ alumina predict a first order phase transition. Such transitions are not seen in experiments. Inhomogeneity and/or two-dimensionality may explain the difference between theory and experiment. |
