| Abstract: | Brillouin scattering experiments have been performed on a series of 12 independently grown crystals of γ-oxygen. The hypersonic velocities, near the triple point, are almost independent of crystal orientation. Preliminary values of the adiabatic elastic constants at the triple point are c11 = 2.57, c12 = 2.01, and c44 = 0.28 (in units of 1010 dyn cm?2). |
