Abstract: | In this paper, we consider the free boundary problem for a simplified version of Ericksen–Leslie equations modeling the compressible hydrodynamic flow of nematic liquid crystals in dimension one. We obtain both existence and uniqueness of global classical solutions provided that the initial density is away from vacuum. |
