Abstract: | Symmetry coordinates were developed for the dodecaborane-ion type X12Y12 model of symmetry Ih. Two sets of force constants for the ion are reported, where it was made use of Decius' and Keating's bendings, respectively. Calculated frequencies for B12H12 and B12D12 are compared with observed data. Better agreement was obtained for the set with Keating's bendings. This conclusion is consistent with one of a previous normal coordinate analysis. |
