Abstract: Bifrequency magnetically insulated transmission line oscillator (BFMILO) is a high-power microwave device that can generate microwave with two output frequencies simultaneously in a single tube. Through both theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, a better understanding of the high-frequency characteristics of an original BFMILO is obtained. It is the intrinsic field distribution that has been found to be the reason of low efficiency of the original BFMILO. Introducing some modification into the slow-wave structure region, an improved BFMILO is designed. High-frequency analysis reveals that it has a better field distribution than the original one. Employing an electron beam of 445 kV and 39.7 kA, the improved BFMILO yields a microwave power of 2.0 GW in PIC simulation while the output is 1.7 GW for the original one, and the two frequencies are 1.21 and 1.46 GHz, the same as the original.
