The reference range for atmospheric backscatter lidar |

| Abstract: | The concept of the reference range, a parameter used to characterize the ranging capability of radar systems, is applied to atmospheric backscatter lidar employing direct detection and optical heterodyne receivers. Use of the reference range is suggested for system evaluation in this area. |
