The syntheses of 4-methyl-, 4-ethyl-, 4-isopropyl-and 4-t-butylquinuclidine are described. The key step in the synthesis of 4-t-butylquinuclidine involves a modified Koch-Haaf reaction leading from a δ-amino-tert. alcohol to an ester of the homologous acid.
