Abstract:An alternative method of approach has been developed for the measurement of thermal neutron flux. The method depends only on the activity of the bare foil if the cadmium ratio at the irradiation position is known. The method has been tested on the GHARR-1 facility at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission using gold and indium foils for the measurement of the thermal neutron flux in the flux range of 1010–1012 n·cm−2·s−1 and the results compare very well with those obtained using the conventional method (cadmium separation method).
