Abstract:X-ray standing wave studies for an iodine monolayer adsorbed on a (2 × 8) reconstructed Ge(111) surface indicate that the germanium surface atoms revert back to bulk-like positions with the iodine atoms saturating the dangling bonds and occupying the atop site positions.
