A Research-grade Laser Microprobe Time-of-flight Mass Spectrometer and Its Applications

A laboratory-built research-grade laser microprobe time-of-flight mass spectrometer is introduced. Its basic principal, special features, research functions and specifications are described. It is a high resolution, high sensitivity research-grade modern analytical instrument, as well as an easy operating instrument for routine analysis. Some of its applications are presented, for example, analysis of high molecular weight compounds with tens of thousands daltons; analysis of high mass protein mixtures; analysis of organic compounds, especially those non-volatile, thermal labile compounds;analysis of very thin films of C60; analysis of inorganic anions and the study in the machanism of laser desorption. The instrument is a new and effective tool in the analytical field, especially in the field of analysis of very high mass molecules.
