Abstract: | In this study, ultrasound grating was used to measure the sound velocity in solutions of ethylene glycol and polyethylene
glycol with molecular weights of 200, 600, 2000, and 10000. We found Parthasarathy empirical rule, that is, sound velocity
is higher in the solution of larger molecules, is invalid in the case of polyethylene glycol solution. We tried to provide
a tentative explanation using the Flory-Krigbaum’s chained block cloud model. |
