Abstract:In this paper a Lagrangian model for two phase porous media is used to describe a poroelastic solid filled with an ideal fluid, where the porosity change is assumed to meet an additional balance equation. The governing field equations are then adopted to study sound waves in poroelastic materials. It is demonstrated that there exist two longitudinal waves and one transverse wave. Evolution of their amplitude is presented in the case of homogeneous weak discontinuity. The results indicate that the amplitudes may either decay to vanish or grow to singularity in finite time, which depends on geometry of initial shape of wave fronts and diffusion effect between two phases.
