Dispersion of empty surface states on Ni(1 1 0)

We have used k-resolved bremsstrahlung isochromat spectroscopy at $\text{h}\text{?}\text{ω=9.5eV}$ to investigate Ni(1 1 0) along the ΓKL bulk mirror plane. Empty surface states of both the crystal-induced and image-potential-induced type have been detected besides two bulk direct transitions. We studied their different behaviour against oxygen contamination and mapped their energy dispersion E(k_∥) along the ΓY direction of the surface Brillouin zone.
