Charge-transfer type luminescence of Yb3+ ions in LuPO4 and YPO4 |

| Abstract: | Broad band emission which has two peaks at 290 nm and 420 nm was observed in Yb3+-activated LuPO4 and YPO4. It is shown that this emission is due to a charge-transfer type transition, i.e. the reverse process of the charge-transfer absorption of Yb3+ ions. |
