Assignment of the hydrocarbon flame bands. The CX transition of HCO

The analysis previously offered for the absorption counterpart of the hydrocarbon flame bands of HCO, observed in an argon matrix at 14 K, has been extended, providing supporting evidence for the identification of the CX transition of HCO. The absorption bands can be fitted to the relationship ν(cm^?1 = 41280 + 1200 υ′₂ + 960 υ′₃. Most of the previously unassigned, diffuse B bands of the flame spectrum can also be assigned to this transition, with υ″₁ = 1 and an extended progression in the ground-state CO stretching vibration.
