| Abstract: | We propose a new indirect mechanism for the formation of fast protons which are observed in the dissociative ionization of H2 at electron impact energies below 29 eV. The process involves the excitation of the molecule to doubly-excited states which autoionize to the dissociative continuum of the ground 1sσg state of H2+. |
