Abstract: | On the basis of Marcus' theory of electron transfer the mechanism and kinetics of electron ejection from lower excited states of aromatic hydrocarbon negative ions in liquid ethers are discussed. The application of the theory to the photo-ionization of biphenyl? in glymes by nanosecond ruby laser pulses studied by Makkes van der Deyl et al. leads to a free energy of electron ejection for the ground state ion, ΔG0e ≈ 12000 cm?1. |
