| Abstract: | The hydrogen bond complexes between 1,10-phenanthroline derivatives (bathocuproine, neo-cuproine and bathophenanthroline) and phenols have been investigated by i.r. spectrometry. The presence of two adjacent nitrogen atoms influences the thermodynamic and spectroscopic properties to a great extent. Comparison with recent results suggests that the 1,10-phenanthroline derivatives cannot be considered as “proton sponges”. |
