| Abstract: | Ever since translation took place, the method of compensation has been adopted and widely popularized. Compensation in translation is to make up for the semantic losses occurred in the course of converting the linguistic forms of the original language into those of the target. For different linguistic forms, ways of compensation differ. This paper focuses on the illustration of some particular ways of compensation frequently adopted in translating Chinese poetic works of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and the Song Dynasty (960-1279) into English so as to highlight the significance of this method in this regard. |
