Abstract: | Sodium sulfite/sulfur dioxide reacts with iron(III) in acidic range (pH 2–3.5) to form iron(II) which is complexed with 1,10-phenanthroline to form a stable orange-red complex with maximum absorption at 510 nm. Beer's Law is obeyed over the concentration range of 0.5–10 ppm of sulfur dioxide. |
