Abstract: | The breather solution of the sine-Gordon equation represents an extended oscillator moving as a whole with constant velocity. We investigate the properties of the breather solution in the context of de Broglie's basic concept of “moving oscillator”, which led to quantum mechanics. We show that the momentum of the breather is proportional to its wave vector, and its total energy is proportional to the oscillator frequency. |
