Abstract:he hydroxyl-SiAl and hydroxyl-Al cross-linked montmorillonite(CLM) were prepared. The results of 27Al NMR and XRD show thatpillars of SiAl-CLM are the Al13]7+ cores combined with the outsidesilica. The higher thermal stability of SiAl-CLM is due to the enhancedcapability for holding protons by StAl pillars and reduced number ofprotons migrated to the octahedral layer during pillars dehydroxylation,it brings about the enhancement of interaction between the pillars andthe montmorillonite layer. The SiO. in tetrahedral sheets of montmorillonite is inverted by high temperature calcination and the formation of St-O-Si bond between the outside silica of StAl pillars and the invertedtetrahedral sheets also improves the thermal stability of SiAl-CLM.
