Abstract: | The infrared spectra of poly(diglycidal ether of bisphenol A) (epoxy) were studied in solutions of chloroform, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride separately to investigate the solvent effect through the behavior of the hydroxyl stretching band. The effect of temperature on the epoxy resin was also studied in this region. The results indicate that there is a varying degree of the weakening of the hydrogen bonding of the hydroxyl group in the epoxy, depending on the solvent. There is evidence also for the formation of hydrogen bonding between chloroform and the hydroxyl group of the epoxy and to a lesser extent between epoxy and benzene. |
