| Abstract: | A new and short synthesis of naturally occurring 1-deoxy-l-gulonojirimycin from tri-O-benzyl-d-glucal, via a regioselective intramolecular cyclization of an amino triol intermediate, is described. Its absolute configuration was deduced from the single crystal X-ray analysis of compound 11. |
