Abstract:The steady-state population distribution in a ∧-type three-level atomic system driven by two strong coherent fields has been investigated. An unexpected population inversion between excited state and ground state has been found over a wide intensity range and wide frequency range for the two coherent fields with opPOsite frequency detuning. For cerium conditions, more and more population gets settled in one sublevel of the ground state.
