Carbon-13 chemical shift and the conformation of substituted naphthalenes

Abstract:The carbon-13 chemical shift of 15 substituted naphthalenes has been employed to calculate the stability and population of the various conformers of 1-naphthaldehyde, 2-naphthaldehyde, 1-hydroxynaphthalene, 2-hydroxynaphthalene and 2-methoxynaphthalene. It was found that the results obtained by this method are comparable to that obtained using other methods.
