| Abstract: | A simple correction formula is developed for the square of natural frequencies of plates with a free edge. The theory is applied to torsional vibrations of a long plate strip and to vibrations of a circular plate with a free edge and a number of nodal diameters. The paper concludes with the remark that the theory may be extended mutatis mutandis to vibrations of shells with a free edge. |
